Noblie Collectibles is a Bulgarian knife manufacturer and a registered trademark based in Burgas, Bulgaria, also having a representative office in Edison, New Jersey. Noblie manufactures mainly custom knives and daggers, which stand out for their rarity. They are produced one at a time, using special crafting techniques like scrimshaw, hand engraving, and forging mosaic Damascus steel. Noblie also produces various luxurious gifts, such as chess, backgammon, and canes.

History

Company origins

Noblie Collectibles was founded by Atanas Valkanov in 2012 as a small knife-making workshop. The company’s name originates from the French phrase “Noblesse oblige,” meaning “Nobility obliges.” Atanas took part in small exhibitions to share his craftsmanship and gain experience in the field of knife-making.

In 2013, he took part in an exhibition of knives in Milan, Italy, where he met representatives of knife-making from different European countries. Later, in 2015, the workshop presented its engraved products at exhibitions in Plovdiv and Sofia, after which a decision was made on trademark registration.[1] and the production of knives for interested customers. Later that year, Atanas met Alexander Gevgalov, a Bulgarian knife-maker[2] and master of engraving; the meeting positively influenced the project’s development.

International activity

The workshop has been actively operating since 2015. The first customers appeared in the form of collectors from Bulgaria, Hong Kong, and the USA. Alex Nemtsev, the current director of Design and Marketing, joined the company in 2015.

In 2016 and 2017, participation in international exhibitions continued in Paris and Monaco, where the company received publicity in the field of knife-makers. The company decided to create its own website to promote the art of knife-making and give international masters the opportunity to present their work and declare their creativity. Thanks to cooperation with craftsmen from around the world, the company expanded its range. Production was supplemented with exclusive gifts for men like collectible chess pieces, backgammon pieces, and canes. An art gallery of Noblie Collectibles also opened in Sofia.

In 2018 and 2019, the company received publicity in Forbes Hungary, Forbes Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian business publication, Manager. The geography of clients was significantly expanding. Noblie's products attracted the attention of collectors from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Switzerland, France, Italy, and the UK[3]

Design and manufacture

Alex Nemtsev is a designer who comes up with all the ideas for knives and daggers. Noblie is inspired by various events and motives: from flora and fauna to famous personalities of the past and present like Genghis Khan and Abraham Lincoln.

Knife creation starts with a simple sketch. Based on the prototype, further possible details and elements such as ornaments, inlays, engravings, and carvings are developed, and the production process begins.

A distinctive feature of Noblie knives is the complete product set. They come in a luxury wooden box, as well as with a pair of white gloves for careful handling, which gives the product a complete look.

Noblie has a line of custom folding knives called Kings of Sports, dedicated to such famous personalities as Diego Maradona, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Roger Federer, and Tiger Woods.

Noblie's team includes blacksmiths, artists, and masters of engraving and scrimshaw, who work with rare wood species, mammoth tusks, precious metals, and stones. All Noblie products are made by hand, the creation of which can take anywhere from several weeks to several months.

Knives are made mainly of high-quality stainless steel Bohler N695, C 440, and forged Damascus steel.
