North Clackamas School District Capital Construction Bond
Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck". The North Clackamas Schools Capital Construction Bond is a bond passed in 2016 to improve schools across the North Clackamas School District. Over $3,000,000 was given to the district to make improvements across all schools in the area.[1]
History[edit]
Clackamas High School had been experiencing overcrowding issues for years, starting during a population spike in Happy Valley and more students living in the area. In 2010, Rock Creek Middle School was built with plans for it to be turned into a High School later on.
In 2016, the bond was proposed and locals voted on passing it or not.[2]. It was passed with a 62% approval rating.
The district promised to make improvements to the schools climate systems (central heating/ventilation, plumbing), building expansions to facilitate more students, improved safety systems (security cameras, locks for all exterior doors, improved fire alarm systems), and better protection against earthquakes. The district also used the money to completely rebuild Milwaukie High School, and construct a new elementary school and high school in Happy Valley. This later became Beatrice Morrow Cannady Elementary and Adrienne C. Nelson High School.
Along with improvements to construction, students were also given improved Chromebooks for online learning and a district-wide cybersecurity system for student & staff technology.
Milwaukie High School renovation[edit]
In 2018, Milwaukie High School was demolished,[3] to begin construction on a newer, safer building. As of October 2021, construction has completed, with improved security, climate, and alarm system.[4] During construction, classes took place in trailers on the football field.
Adrienne C. Nelson High construction[edit]
In 2020, Adrienne C. Nelson High School underwent construction. Occupying the building of a previous middle school, many renovations were made to facilitate a high school environment, such as a performing arts center and football field, as well as 16 new classrooms. Nelson High School opened in 2021.
Clackamas High School and Rock Creek Middle School[edit]
Rock Creek Middle School was relocated to a building east of Clackamas High School due to ANHS occupying the old building. The building it now occupies previously housed Sunrise Middle School, which closed in 2011. CHS had used the building sparingly, but as the building was needed, CHS went under minor renovation. Four new classrooms were added to CHS, as well as a new health center[5].
Rock Creek's weight room was converted back to a gymnasium, and four new classrooms were built. A blacktop was constructed and classrooms were repainted. Standard NCSD security was added.
Beatrice Morrow Cannady Elementary School[edit]
An elementary school was built near Damascus due to growth in Eastern Happy Valley.
