The North Star Sail Club (NSSC) is a private yacht club[1] located on the shore of Clinton River (Michigan) in Harrison Township, Michigan. The club is a member of the Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association (DRYA), Anchor Bay Yacht Racing Association (ABYRA), Anchor Bay Yacht Association (ABYA), Inland Lake Yachting Association (ILYA), US Sailing (USSA) and Yachting Clubs of America. The club was initially founded in 1946 by Charlie Walker, Jeff Ricardeau, Neil Hoyt, and Mike Kerza in a rented building at the end of the dock of St. Clair Boat Harbor off the Detroit River, today known as Sinbad’s.
In 1949 North Star built a new clubhouse that is now the property of Emerald City Boat Harbor.
The current clubhouse was erected in 1974, assisted, managed, and erected by NSSC members.[3]
Racing
NSSC offers Tuesday night competitive racing in Anchor Bay (Michigan) Top Gun Twilight Series, Friday "Beer Can" racing, and multiple regattas including the Boston Yachtsman Regatta, ABYRA Night Race/Templin Memorial, St. Elmo's Night Race and Sloman Scramble.[4]
North Star Sail Club is hosting the 2024 Catalina 22 National Regatta[5]
Junior Sailing
North Star maintains an annual Junior Sailing program open to members and non-members alike to teach sailing and boat handling skills.[6] [7]
