The Northern Ireland Rally Championship is the premier rallying series in Northern Ireland. The NI Rally Championship, Officially known as McGrady Insurance Motorsport UK Northern Ireland Rally Championship[1], is held annually and is promoted by Association of Northern Ireland Car Clubs (ANICC)[1].The championship takes place over five events, based in Northern Ireland, using special stages, which are on closed public tarmac roads and racing circuits.
The overall Championship title is contested by drivers and co-drivers using cars homologated in vehicle classes of Historic 2WD, FIA 2WD, Clubman 2WD [1450cc, 1650cc, 2100cc(2 valve) and 2100cc(multivalve)], Clubman 4WD, National 4WD, International 4WD and Open Class. A competitor must start at least three of the events to qualify for the championship and if three events are not held, there will be no championship.[1]
Three other championships, the NI Junior Drivers Championship, the NI Ladies Championship and the NI Motor Club Team Championship, run in parallel with the NI Rally Championship all with their own clauses.[1]
Scoring System[edit]
Competitors best scores in 4 out of 5 rounds are used to calculate the final Championship standings. One point to each competitor that starts an event. One additional point to each competitor that finishes an event. To competitors according to their position relative to other competitors in the final overall classification and overall categories of each event the following additional points: 28, 26, 25, 24, 23, etc. down to 3, 2 and 1. Points are allocated to both Drivers and Co-Drivers in this way. [1]
