Northwest Career College (NCC) is a private for-profit career college located in Las Vegas, NV.[1]. Northwest Career College provides certificate, diploma, and degree-level training in the Healthcare, Business, and Legal fields[2]. Classes are conducted both in-person and online. Northwest Career College’s main campus is located at 7398 Smoke Ranch Road[3] in Las Vegas, Nevada, near the Lake Mead exit from the US-95 freeway and across the street from Cimmaron Memorial High School[4]. Northwest Career College also operates a separate educational center located at 1776 E Warm Springs Road[5] in Las Vegas, Nevada, near the Warm Springs Road exit of the CC-215 Freeway.

History[edit]

Northwest Career College was founded in 1997[6] by Dr. John Kenny[7] and was originally called Northwest Massage School[8]. Northwest Massage School expanded its offerings in 2002 to include additional healthcare programs and was renamed Northwest Health Careers[9]. Northwest Health Careers continued to expand its offerings to include its first non-healthcare program and its first degree program in 2012 and was renamed to Northwest Career College in 2014[10].

Northwest Career College offers programs in the Healthcare, Business, Criminal Justice, and Legal fields (detailed below)[12].

Curriculum[edit]

Northwest Career College offers the majority of its programs via blended education and offers the remainder of its programs via full distance education[13]. In blended education, students divide their time between in-person and online learning activities[14], while in full distance education, students complete all of their learning in the online environment[15] [16]. Students conclude their training by practicing their skills at an affiliated facility during their internship or externship[17] course.

Licensure, Accreditation, and Federal Recognition[edit]

Northwest Career College is licensed by the State of Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education[18]. Northwest Career College is also a participant in the National Council of State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, NC-SARA[19]. The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement is a voluntary agreement among its member states and US territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance-education courses and programs[20]. Northwest Career College is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)[21], located at 7777 Leesburg Pike Suite 314 N., Falls Church, Virginia 22043. Northwest Career College’s Pharmacy Technician Program is programmatically accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education/American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP/ACPE)[22]. Northwest Career College is approved by the US Department of Education to administer Title IV Federal Financial Aid benefits[23] to eligible students.

Community Impacts[edit]

Northwest Career College accepted transfer students from the Medical Assistant, Medical Billing, and Coding, and Pharmacy Technician programs offered by Brightwood College after that institution suddenly closed in 2018[27]. Northwest Career College accepted transfer students from the Massage Therapy program offered by Cortiva Institute after that institution closed its Las Vegas campus in 2019[28]. Northwest Career College also supported students who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by disbursing approximately $1,200,000 in CARES Act funding to students enrolled in school during the initial lockdown period from March 2020 to May 2020[29]
