From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Norton-March Aircrew Association (NMAA) was established on June 20, 2015 at March ARB, California.[1] It is a non-profit California Organization that is dedicated to the honor and patriotism of all U.S. Air Force & U.S. Air Force Reserve Aircrew Members as well as their supporting organizations & personnel who served at Norton Air Force Base, March AFB, and March ARB, California during their time of Military or Civilian Service. It also supports those current Military Members at March ARB, California who continue to give their all for this great Nation. In addition, the Norton-March Aircrew Association's 'Charitable arm' supports those veterans and their families who are suffering and in need of assistance.

The Association was initially established by both Retired and Active Officers and Senior Enlisted Members who served with the 63 Military Airlift Wing, the 445 Military Airlift Wing at Norton AFB, and/or the 452 Air Mobility Wing at March ARB, California.

Mission[edit]

The mission of the Norton-March Aircrew Association is to provide a forum for discussion of common issues among our alumni and offer a channel with the 452nd Air Mobility Wing, and other base organizations.

Vision[edit]

The Norton-March Aircrew Association will:

1. Initiate programs and activities that meet the needs of our alumni, assist in fund raising, recruitment, and respond to requests for assistance from the 452nd Air Mobility Wing and its Tenant Organizations.

2. Will become a catalyst that will bring old members back to be part of current activities.

3. As part of a Bi-Annual Reunion on (odd number years), it will: (a). Provide an opportunity for alumni to see what their unit is doing today, allow alumni to get first hand information, (b). Allow alumni to provide that part of history and background that only they can, (c). Provide a reunion with multi-events which enables an alumni ample opportunities to socialize and rekindle friendships and create new ones, (d). Provide for support for a (even-number year) smaller BBQ-Reunion held on March ARB and possibly on busier UTA (non-exercise weekends), that will allow current Wing members an additional social gathering place with alumni.

History[edit]

Organizations served by founding & current Members[edit]

At Norton AFB, California which opened in March, 1942 as a World War II Training base, and was closed as part of BRAC in 1994. Norton was placed on the Department of Defense's base closure list in 1989 (the same year that the DoD signed the Federal Facilities Agreement with the EPA). The closure was cited as due to environmental wastes, inadequate facilities, and air traffic congestion (due to air traffic from Ontario International Airport, twenty miles (32 km) west, and Los Angeles International Airport, 60 miles (97 km) west). The last of the facilities on the base were closed in 1995.

Norton AFB closure also saw numerous other base closures, re-alignments, as well as the command restructuring within the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserves, and the Air National Guard. Wings, Squadrons, and Weapon Systems were also re-aligned, and moved, but to also prepare for the C-17 Globemaster III coming on board the Air Force Inventory. March ARB, California was designated the 1st Air Force's 'Air Mobility Wing' combining both Tanker Aircraft (KC-135 Stratotanker) with Airlift Aircraft (C-141 Starlifter and eventually the C-17 Globemaster III).
