Nous is a service that helps people manage their household bills and utilities. It provides users with a real time view of their finances and to forecast how their household costs will change over the coming year.[1]
It was launched in 2021 by entrepreneur Greg Marsh, who previously founded hospitality company onefinestay.[2]
Marsh came up with the idea after being ‘accidentally’ moved to the wrong tariff by his gas supplier, which would have potentially meant him paying more than he should.[3]
In February 2022, the platform announced it had raised £6.6m ($9m) in seed funding.[4]
In August 2022, after the Bank of England announced that it was raising interest rates to 1.75%, Marsh was interviewed by the Financial Times, the Sun and the Daily Express. He discussed the impact that the rate rise would have on homeowners’ mortgages and warned of the threat of house repossessions.[5][6][7]
The same month Marsh appeared as a guest on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme. He discussed the early repayment fees that mortgage lenders charge to homeowners who wish to end a low-fixed rate loans early to avoid paying a predicted much higher interest rate when their current deal ends.[8]
