History
Nous Group was founded in 1999 by Tim Orton, who continues to lead the firm as Managing Principal and CEO.[2] The firm expanded to the United Kingdom in 2010 with the opening of a London office, and later entered the Canadian market in 2020 with a Toronto office.[3]
In 2021, Nous acquired Cubane Consulting, a higher education benchmarking firm, which was later rebranded as Nous Data Insights.[4] In 2024, the firm expanded its health offering through the acquisition of Health Policy Analysis, a specialist consultancy in health economics and evaluation.[5]
Activities and influence
In 2025, the firm partnered with education technology provider Ellucian to support digital transformation initiatives in Australian universities, aiming to improve student outcomes and reduce change fatigue.[6]
In August 2025, The Australian Financial Review published an opinion piece by Nous Group Principal Zac Ashkanasy titled “Unlocking the full potential of our universities in a world of change.” The article highlighted Nous’ long-standing collaboration with universities and called for bold, mission-led reform in the sector.
