Novympia are a British drag queen duo[1] consisting of Nova (Aaron Robb) and Olympia Avalanche (River Bevis).[2] Based in Bournemouth, England,[3] they are best known for their YouTube channel of the same name,[4] established in 2013.[1] Their content includes comedy, parody, and videos about drag and makeup. The duo received wider attention following the viral circulation of their My Strange Addiction parody "I Want to Be a Sofa",[5] and were ranked as the third most-viewed drag channel in the UK in YouTube data covering 2018.[6]
Career
Novympia's YouTube channel was established in 2013.[1] In January 2016, a clip from their My Strange Addiction parody "I Want to Be a Sofa" circulated on social media, receiving more than 60,000 retweets and likes; CelebMix reported that some viewers initially mistook the parody for genuine reality television.[7] By July, NewNowNext reported that the full parody had received more than 2.5 million views.[5] The parody also attracted international attention, with German radio station bigFM reporting on its popularity and profiling the duo's wider YouTube output.[8] The following month, World of Wonder featured the duo on its website, highlighting their videos about drag and popular culture, including their coverage of RuPaul's Drag Race.[4] Later that year, Novympia were nominated for Best YouTuber at the 2016 WOWie Awards.[9] In 2018, Novympia performed at the University of Sussex's Glitter Ball, where The Badger described them as "viral YouTube sensations".[10]
In February 2019, Robb and Bevis appeared as contestants on the Bournemouth edition of Couples Come Dine With Me.[11] Later that year, Novympia appeared on World of Wonder's Couples for Cash, part of the web series Besties for Cash.[12] In April 2019, Gay Times, reporting on data released by YouTube for 2018, ranked Novympia as the third most-viewed drag channel in the UK, behind Willam and Miz Cracker, and reported that the duo had more than 131,000 subscribers.[6] Novympia also appeared in Revolut's launch campaign for its Rainbow Card in support of ILGA-Europe, which included advertising on the London Underground and Dublin public transport.[13] Later that year, Radio Times described Novympia as "one of the UK's largest drag channels" and highlighted their My Strange Addiction parody "I Want to Be a Sofa" as a viral hit.[1] In January 2020, Novympia appeared at the inaugural RuPaul's DragCon UK in London, where they hosted the "Wait, What?" panel featuring Ongina and Sum Ting Wong.[14] In December that year, Novympia appeared in the UK edition of the YouTube Originals New Year's Eve special Hello 2021.[15] In March 2021, Boing Boing featured Olympia's parody of mortician and YouTuber Caitlin Doughty, noting Doughty's response to the video.[16]
In 2024, Novympia launched the advice podcast Absolute Agony, in which they respond to problems and dilemmas submitted by listeners.[17] In 2025, Novympia released a parody of the reality television series Tabatha Takes Over. During an appearance on Seven Network's The Morning Show, Tabatha Coffey was shown the parody and described it as "delicious".[18]
