Number 13 Beano Street
Number 13 is a long running comic strip that appeared in the UK comic The Beano. It originally appeared in the reader's request feature of the comic [1] in issue 2333[2], dated 4 April 1987, before making its first regular appearance in July of that year[1], and ran until 1997[1], although it became sporadic during the last few years. A couple of one-off appearances followed up until issue, dated 14 December 2002.[1] It was originally drawn by John Geering[1][3] and was one of his most successful strips in The Beano.[4] The strip reappeared in 2011 as reprints retitled Number 13 Beano Street, before returning again in January 2014, this time written and drawn by Alan Ryan.
It was a comedy horror comic strip inspired by The Munsters and The Addams Family[4] with much of the humour derived from the idea of Hammer Horror style characters living in British suburbia.[4] They lived in an out of place spooky castle-esque house at number 13 on an otherwise nondescript British suburban street.
The strip featured the following characters who live in Number 13:[4]
- Boris - the son, a vampire
- Dad - Boris' father, also a vampire
- Frankie - the butler, a Frankenstein's monster-like character
- Mum - Boris' mother, also a vampire
- Gran - Boris' grandma, a witch
- Tiddles - one of their pets, a Smilodon (or sabretooth cat)
- Fiendish - their other pet, a bat
- Uncle Wolfie - a Hawaiian shirt wearing werewolf
- Sabre - Frankie's pet brick.
