Nutty Bavarian is a brand of caramelized nuts founded in 1989 and headquartered in Sanford, Florida, United States.

Origin[edit]

John Mauter visited Bavaria, Germany, where caramelized nuts are a common snack. Upon returning to the United States, John resigned as a director at a multinational company and created "The Nutty Bavarian." He then opened a kiosk at Universal Studios in Florida in 1989. Years later, Bill Clinton tried the nuts and loved them. Then, in 1994, David Brent bought the brand. David then developed a machine to roast and caramelize the nuts. By 1996, the company had reached 100 points of sale in the United States. In the same year, Nutty Bavarian expanded to Brazil, spreading across the Southeast region. One year later, in 1997, the franchise system was established. Besides Brazil and the United States, it has points of sale in 23 other countries, totaling approximately 900 globally.
