Nvidia MGX
Nvidia MGX is a modular reference architecture published by Nvidia for the design of data center server systems built around Nvidia GPUs, CPUs and DPUs. It was announced by Nvidia at Computex 2023 in Taipei as a common chassis and interconnect specification intended to allow original design manufacturers and system integrators to build accelerator servers across multiple form factors without redesigning shared infrastructure.[1][2]
Design
The MGX specification defines a common chassis geometry, power delivery reference, and connector layout that supports multiple accelerator, CPU and networking configurations within the same physical envelope. Launch ecosystem partners publicly named by Nvidia included ASRock Rack, Asus, Gigabyte, Pegatron, QCT and Supermicro.[2]
800V DC rack architecture
In 2026 Nvidia announced an evolution of the MGX reference to use 800 V direct current (DC) rack distribution in place of legacy 400 V AC distribution for AI compute racks, with the aim of reducing conversion stages and interconnect copper mass at multi-megawatt rack power draws.[3] The 800 V DC transition is a primary demand-pull driver for silicon carbide and gallium nitride wide-bandgap power devices in the intermediate conversion stages, and reshapes the vendor set at the last-mile point-of-load delivery stage at the accelerator socket.[4]
