Nybbas
Nybbas is a demon or spirit that manages visions and dreams, according to Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal.
Description
Nybbas, is a demon or spirit of the Inferior order, high upper gallery of hell. He manages visions and dreams.
Appearance
Nybbas is regarded as a buffoon and a charlatan; it is said that his grinning face is as sickening and terrifying as it is beneath his otherwise friendly exterior. His eyes are always hidden behind a veil or some obstruction.
Powers
One of Nybbas’ powers is to dehumanise and desensitise humanity. He can make selfishness and cruelty appear moral, and generosity and gentleness as a childish act. Modern stories tell that he was the demon behind the inventors of TV and the World Wide Web. Some ultra-right sects in modern day would even blame him for manipulation of magazines, newspapers, radio, and the World Wide Web.
He is regarded as a buffoon and a charlatan. He is depicted as smiling. He is of the inferior order, high upper gallery of hell. In one game, called the In Nomine, Nybbas is called the Demon Prince of Media.
Similarity with Nebahaz
The name Nybbas resembles "Nebahaz", one of several deities protecting the individual cities of Samaria who are mentioned specifically by name in the Bible, in 2 Kings 17:31. In his "Encyclopédie Théologique", or "Dictionnaire ... de la Bible", Augustin Calmet asserts that Nebahaz and Nebachas are one and the same and associates them with Nebo, another name for the god Nabu.
