Obarima Akuoko Amponsah, also known as OB Amponsah, is a Ghanaian stand-up comedian, optometrist and TV presenter.[2][3][4][5]
Early life and education[edit]
OB Amponsah comes from Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana but was born in Wenchi, Brong-Ahafo Region. Born into an Adventist family of four, he developed a passion for public speaking and decided to join the choir, from where he also learned to play the keyboard. He complted his primary education at Modern Preparatory School, Akab Complex, and went on to Opoku Ware School. In August 2008, OB was admitted to the University of Cape Coast where he studied Doctor of Optometry.[6]
Comedy Career[edit]
In boarding school at Akab Complex, Berekum, OB was fascinated by the humor displayed by early slapstick comedians like Bob Okala, Nkomode, Agya Koo and would perform like them to colleague students at variety show nights during Saturday night entertainment.
OB Amponsah has two comedy specials to his credit; “voices in my head” and “political refugee”.[7][8]
He has also performed at a couple of high profile comedy shows including the “Lord of the Ribs Comedy Festival” held in Nigeria,[9] the “African magic comedy nites” in Nigeria and also the “Night of Thousand laughs” in Ghana,[10] Citi FM Decemba To Rememba,[11][12] Ghana Comedy Festival and 3 Music Awards.[13] He is currently the co-host of the television show 'The Half Serious Show' on GHOne TV.[14][15]
