Obayomi Anthony Ayodele is a young[1] and innovative lens-based visual artist and visual storyteller from Lagos, Nigeria. His work has been exhibited internationally. In 2017, he was awarded the LagosPhoto and National Geographic Portfolio Review prize. In 2017, he was awarded the 2019–20 Taurus Prize for visual arts.

Education

Obayomi obtained a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts and Graphic Design from the University of Lagos in 2017.[2]

Work

Obayomi's work as a visual artist most often takes the form of documentaries and non-fiction visual stories about people, society and culture. These offer alternative perspectives, especially to non-conventional art audiences. Through his work, he aims to question traditional stereotypes and opinions and speak out on issues of social justice. In his work, he combines Art and Technology in traditional, immersive and experimental media. Obayomi has also spoken at a number of universities, including Yale University's Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscript Library[3]

He has collaborated with others to produce visual artworks that are registered as NFTs at Voice.com[4].[5]

Exhibitions and Awards

Exhibitions at which Obayomi's work has been exhibited include the National Geographic Story Tellers Summit[6], BredaPhoto festival[7], LagosPhoto Festival[8], Alliance Francaise Lagos[9], Dance Gathering Lagos, African Artists Foundation, The Project Space-Johannesburg and the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography[10][11]

He was awarded the National Geographic portfolio review Prize at the LagosPhoto Festival in 2017[12] and the Taurus Prize for Visual Arts (2019/2020).[13][14]
