Oblong Industries is a technology company that focuses on visualizing data.[1] Oblong seeks to combat the overwhelming nature of current data, and the efficiency of current collaboration in the workplace.[2] Oblong's flagship product is Mezzanine. Mezzanine is a shared digital workspace that allows for people to work together in any location. Oblong has also gained fame from the founder’s, John Underkoffler, connection to Hollywood, specifically consulting in advanced-technology movies.[3]

History[edit]

Oblong Industries was founded in 2006 by John Underkoffler.[4]

In 2007 Oblong Industries raised $8.8 million in Series A funding.[5][6] Then, in 2011, Oblong raised $21.2 million in Series B funding.[7] Oblong launched Mezzanine in 2012.[8] In 2017 Oblong announced the Mezzanine series, the first product line they had created.[9]

Products[edit]

G-Speak[edit]

G-Speak is Oblong’s core technological foundation.[10] G-Speak is a C/C++ SDK which allows the advancement of multi-user, multi-screen, multi-device, spatial, distributed applications. A C/C++ is a high level of programing language.[11]

Mezzanine Series[edit]

The Mezzanine Series of products allow data sets, work-spaces and communication channels to connect across multiple screens in various locations.[12] It allows interaction between various devices such as touch screens, phones, and tablets.[13][14] The new Series introduced in 2017 allowed for the price point to be below 50,000 dollars.[15]

Mezzanine 200[edit]

The Mezzanine 200 series is a dual-screen configuration for small and medium sized rooms.[16] The 200 lets users share and organize multiple streams of content. It can hold up to 10 shared devices. The price is the most accessible out of the products introduced.[17]

Mezzanine 300[edit]

The Mezzanine 300 series features three displays, allowing for up to three live video sources to be viewed at full resolution.[18] The Mezzanine 300 shares the same workspace that the Series 600 and 650 has.[19] The Mezzanine 300 is also fully upgradable to the Mezzanine 600 series.[20]

Mezzanine 600[edit]

The Mezzanine 600 series contains six screens that span onto multiple walls.[21] Mezzanine 600 includes digital cork boards that extend the workspace to additional walls in the room.[22] The screens are private to the room and are prevented from being shares when collaborating with other 600 and 300 systems. The 600 also introduces spatial tracking technology that requires no room remediation.[23]

Mezzanine 650[edit]

The Mezzanine 650 series is the largest product by Oblong.[24] Up to six screens can be configured as a video wall. Additionally, more Mezzanine appliances can be connected to increase the size of the workspace. Mezzanine 650 is compatible with both infrared and ultrasonic tracking, while also allowing for acoustic emitters.[25]
