Obredim

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Obredim is an intentional design process especially used in Permaculture design. It is one of the design processes suggested by the UK Permaculture Association within their Diploma in Applied Permaculture [1], besides SADIMET, CEAP, SWOC and PASTE. The process is described in Aranya's book "Permaculture Design"[2]. The process is well documented in the French speaking Ekopedia.[3], which besides Obredim also describe alternative versions.

Meaning

  • Observe: Gathering all relevant information in order to be able to design. This could be zone and sector -analysis or information coming from other relevant input methods.
  • Boundaries: Setting the limits and expectations.
  • Resources: Describing what resources are at hand and can be used. This could involve abstract values like time and money but also non-abstract goods like trees, soil and water.
  • Evaluation: During the evaluation step the acquired knowledge from the previous steps is checked. Guiding principles are selected.
  • Design: The actual design step. Herein the Permaculture ethics and principles are applied to the subject given.
  • Implement: With a finished design the implementation step can happen. The design gets executed.
  • Maintain: Making sure that the implemented design is kept running.

Versions

Obredimet

In Obredimet there are 2 additional steps, evaluation and tweak, at the end. It is often also referred to as Obredim(et).

  • Evaluation: During evaluation the implemented design gets evaluated.
  • Tweak: During the "tweak" step the implemented design gets altered according to the findings.

Obr3dim

Obr3dimet is an alternative version that adds an additional evaluation step after the design phase. Besides adding an additional step the combination of the steps "Design + Evaluation" are repeated for 3 times resulting in the following process: Observe -> Boundaries -> Resources -> Evaluation -> Design -> Evaluation -> Design -> Evaluation -> Design -> Evaluation -> Implement -> Maintain. Obr3dimet can be combined with Obredimet. Then the additional two steps of "Evaluation" and "Tweak" are added.
