October 2023 Hartlepool stabbings
On 15 October 2023, two men were stabbed in Hartlepool, United Kingdom; the police are treating the attacks as terrorism.[1]
At around 5:15am on 15 October 2023 in a house in Wharton Terrace, Hartlepool, County Durham, North East England, a man was stabbed in his chest, legs and mouth.[1] Later that morning, in Tees Street in the town centre, another man was stabbed in his chest and neck, killing him.[1] Later the same day, nearby at the junction of Victoria Road and York Road, police arrested 44-year-old Moroccan asylum seeker Ahmed Ali.[2][1] He is the first man's housemate, and police said they were not looking for anyone else.[1] Following an investigation by Counter-Terrorism Policing North East and Cleveland Police, he was on 16 October charged with murder and attempted murder.[1] On 17 October, he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey in Central London on 19 October.[3] At the 19 October hearing he appeared via videolink from prison, and was remanded in custody to appear again on 27 October.[1]
