October International Model United Nations (OIMUN) is a collegiate level Model United Nations (MUN) organisation based in Giza, Egypt. Under the supervision of October 6 University (O6U), Faculty of Economics and Management, OIMUN is a student organisation established in 2012. Students typically roleplay delegates of the United Nations and simulate U.N. organs and agencies. The activity usually takes place with an annual conference organised by OIMUN under the supervision of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Economics and Management, October 6 University.[1] [2] [3]
Objectives
The purposes of OIMUN are:
- To educate its members about current events around the world, how the UN is responding to these events, and what actions can be taken to alleviate these issues through participation in Model United Nations Conferences.[4]
- To promote involvement and develop the values of global citizenship within the university's community, and local committees generally.
- To develop students’ research skills and the necessary substantive knowledge to analyse policymaking processes, institutions, and actors influencing the role and functions of the United Nations as an intergovernmental organisation in the global community.
- To provide a liberal education model as a platform for discussing international relations and diplomatic means through a systematic simulation of the United Nations.
Vision and Mission
OIMUN's vision, mission, and objectives are inspired and influenced by the three dimensions of the strategic visions of the Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, Africa 2063 (Agenda 2063), and Egypt 2030. The Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals are the most critical blueprint that promotes a better and suitable life for Earth’s citizens by providing the minimum standards of humanistic life, defeating poverty, disease, and environmental challenges. Our second dimension is our African integrity, which should serve the adoption of both the vision and the long-term strategy of Africa 2063 – a major pan-Africanist blueprint that aims for a major transformation of Africa in the coming decades. Converting our continental affiliations to dreams requires impactful commitment to ensure the longevity of the strong ties between Africa and the world, and to help Africa become a powerhouse in the world’s economy. Our third dimension is our national duty, which OIMUN proudly serves. OIMUN always declares its nationalistic stance to cooperate, support, and stand with the Arab Republic of Egypt's vision of Egypt 2030, which is the national blueprint that tackles sustainable inclusive growth and balanced regional development.[5]
