Octopai is an automated metadata management solution mainly developed for data and analytics teams to precisely and quickly discover and manage shared metadata. Company history
In 2015, Octopai was co-founded by Amnon Drori, CEO, Itai Kahalani, VP R&D, and Gal Ziton, CTO. The co-founders developed a solution to address the BI problems and frustrations they faced in their career experiences as software engineers and BI professionals: it took their team of five data engineers four months to fix one data error, manually. That’s when they knew they had to do something about it, so they founded Octopai.
With further developments, Octopai was selected as one of 10 cloud-based startups in Microsoft's ScaleUp 2018 program. Later in 2019, Octopai earned Microsoft’s Co-Sell Ready designation through the Microsoft One Commercial Partner Program.[2] The same year, the company also announced its complete support across the entire Microsoft BI Stack.[3] Beyond this, Octopai expanded its support of the Microsoft OLAP cube.
Octopai works with a network of partners including IBM, SAP, Datric, Collibra, Data Millenium, Oracle, Amdocs, Agilarc in support of their BI processes including ETL, database, analysis, reporting & analytics.
Octopai has raised a total of $6.2M in funding over 2 rounds. Their most recent seed funding of $4.5 million was raised on Jul 23, 2018.[4] Octopai has received investments from Moneta VC, North First Ventures[5], Gefen Capital and iAngels, Club 100 Plus, and Morphus VC.[6]
Products
Octopai products streamline and simplify metadata management processes via a platform, a suite of metadata management tools including modules for automated data discovery, automated horizontal (system-to-system) and vertical (column-to-column) data lineage, and an automated business glossary.
Utilizing machine learning, Octopai automates metadata management to increase productivity and trust, shorten time to market, and reduce risks associated with erroneous data.
Octopai delivers an organization-wide solution for cloud-based and on-premise. Octopai tracks changes to business intelligence IT tools, data warehouses, and big data platforms on a daily basis. The platform detects all relevant data points to enable a thorough analysis prior to system changes and a substantially shortened disaster recovery time in case of crisis.
Octopai launched its Automated Business Glossary [7] (ABG) to give business users a single resource for all business terms, definitions, and descriptions, putting an end to the never-ending search to understand business term meaning. The ABG can be implemented in less than 24 hours.
