Oculyze GmbH is a German SaaS company located in Wildau, Germany, that creates custom services for image analysis.
The company has automated expert image analysis by combining artificial intelligence (AI) with methodical pattern recognition and deep learning to create computer vision software with different applications.[1][2][3] Oculyze’s technology uploads the pictures the users take via the Oculyze apps and analyzes[4][5][6] them in the cloud[7] by using recognition algorithms. The algorithms take an image as an input and output interpretations of the data through the use of the AI.
History of Oculyze GmbH
In November 2015 an EXIST grant was used to develop the Oculyze technology.[8] and in February 2016 the patent on Oculyze Technology was registered.[9]
Oculyze GmbH was officially founded in 2016 by Dr. Katja Schulze, who specialized in bioinformatics and image recognition of microscopic images, Dr. Ulrich M. Tillich, who specialized in laboratory automation, Kilian Moser, who specialized in business development, and Dr. Marcus Frohme, professor of molecular biology at the TH Wildau.
The launch of the Generation 1 Better Brewing (BB) device took place in 2016, while BB2 and Oculyze FW automated yeast cell counters were launched in 2018. In the meantime, in 2017, Brandenburg Kapital invested into Oculyze[10] and in 2018 Constantia New Business joined Oculyze shareholders.[11]
The patent for the Oculyze microscope assembly was further granted by Australia in 2021[12] and by the US in 2021.[13]

Automated yeast cell counters market
Automated yeast cell counters typically replace the classical manual count, done through a microscope, on a hemocytometer.[21] The automated yeast cell counters that are currently available on the market[22] are being used by brewers[23] and wine makers, but also bakeries, distilleries, ethanol and bioethanol (or ethanol fuel) producers to analyze the yeast and monitor fermentation at various stages in the production process.
