Ohio (Internet humour)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The phrase "Only in Ohio" is an internet humour meme about the US state of Ohio. It is most prominent in videos and comments on TikTok, but also appears on other platforms like YouTube. The phrase gives impression it is a weird state, a place that creepy things happen, or that many things do in ohio not go right in the state. Videos featuring the meme are often unrelated to Ohio, or are fictitious.[1][2] As of August 2023 the hashtag for the meme has got 1.5 billion views on TikTok.[3] Other variations of phrase are "Can't have [something] in Ohio", and "Normal day in Ohio".[4] Videos using the Ohio phrases often use the song by Lil B, "Swag like Ohio".[4]

History[edit]

It appears that the Ohio meme started in 2016 with a video showing a bus whose announcement board says "Ohio will be eliminated", a meme called "Ohio vs the world" on Tumblr, where the state ficticiously wanted to achieve world dominance.[5] The Ohio meme became popular in August 2022 with the Lil B song "Swag like Ohio".[4]
