Oksana Salamatina is an art curator and a gallerist.

Education[edit]

She has MA degrees in International Economics from the Moscow University of Commerce, and Art Gallery Administration from the Fashion Institute of Technology (State University of New York), and received a Peggy Guggenheim Foundation Scholarship (1998).[1][2]

Career[edit]

Salamatina worked at Sotheby's and Christie's, followed by the Nassau County Museum of Art and The New Museum. In 2008 she established her own gallery, which exhibits established and emerging artists.[1][3] It exhibited Sylvia Plachy, Gyorgy Beck,[4] Niels Shoe Meulman,[5] Marc Andre Robinson,[6][7] Andres Serrano,[8][not in citation given] Naum Medovoy,[9] Valera & Natasha Cherkashin,[citation needed] Andrei Sharov,[10][11] Nabil Mousa,[12] Olga Perevalova,[citation needed] Demi,[13] Nicolas Sisto,[citation needed] and Sergei Romanov.[2][14]

In 2012 Salamatina Gallery and Tretyakov Gallery co-organized lectures by American art theorists Francis Naumann and Bradley Bailey, co-authors of Marcel Duchamp: The Art of Chess book, as a part of "The Triumph of Kaissa. Dedication to Duchamp" exhibition.[15] In 2014 Salamatina donated Demi's artwork "Black Little Angel" to Smithsonian American Art Museum.[16][non-primary source needed]

Salamatina curated Victor Skrebneski's exhibition in Winkleman / Plus Ultra Gallery in 2007,[17][non-primary source needed] the exhibition of Carole Feuerman and young artists India Evans, Christy Singleton, and Lisa Wade at Solyanka Gallery, Moscow.[18] Salamatina organized and co-curated the first Russian exhibition of Roberto Matta's works in State Hermitage in 2019.[19] The exhibition took 9 years to arrange and featured 94 works from 24 private collections and two foundations from the UK, US, Mexico, France, and Switzerland, including the Lucid Art Foundation owned by the family of Matta's friend Gordon Onslow Ford.[20][21][22]
