Oleg Mirochnikov is a Russian actor, director, voice-over artist, and dialogue coach. He appears in numerous films, television, radio, and commercials. His credits include Spectre, McMafia, and Doctor Who audio dramas.[2] As a highly-regarded dialogue coach, he has worked with actors such as Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig, and Kevin Bacon.[3][4] Mirochnikov is also the artistic director of Belka Productions and is based in London, England.[5][6]

Early life[edit]

Mirochnikov was born in Minsk, then the Soviet Union, to native Russian parents. His mother is a Muscovite.[7] He began acting at a young age and attended the Belorusian Academy of Theatre and Art, where he was trained professionally as an actor under the tutelage of disciples of Stanislavski and Vakhtangov.[8][9]

Career[edit]

After graduating from the Belorusian Academy of Theatre and Art, Mirochnikov worked extensively in theatre, films, and television. In 1991, he moved to Belgium, where he lived for four years and worked as an acting coach.[10][11] In the mid-1990s, Mirochnikov was invited to teach at the prestigious Drama Centre London, where he continues to teach today.[12] His former pupils include many of this generation's most successful actors such as Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Emilia Clarke, Bradley James, and Russell Brand. Mirochnikov's acting techniques and styles are rooted in and based on the Vakhtangov approach and traditions. He has developed his own unique acting exercises and conducts research based on this tradition.

In addition to his teaching and research, Mirochnikov is also a theatre director and practitioner. He is currently the artistic director of Belka Productions, a production company that primarily focuses on Russian theatre, creating and presenting productions of Russian texts rarely shown to British audiences.[13] Mirochnikov's directorial work in the UK includes A Warsaw Melody and Sunstroke. A Warsaw Melody was performed at the Arcola Theatre in 2012. It garnered great reviews during its run and was Critic's Choice in The Times. Sunstroke was performed at the Platform Theatre in 2013.[14] For Sunstroke, Mirochnikov devised and combined The Lady with the Dog with Ivan Bunin's Sunstroke. This is a prime example of his unique style and take on theatre practices. His productions are often filled with bold imagery and physicality, and are very expressive and imaginative.

Most recently, in May of 2018, Mirochnikov and Belka Productions curated a hugely successful Russian Season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, inviting the legendary and internationally-acclaimed Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg to London for a strictly limited ten-performance engagement. The Maly Drama Theatre, under the artistic directorship of Lev Dodin, presented the UK premiere of Vasily Grossman’s epic novel Life and Fate and their celebrated production of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.[15] The season was received with rave reviews from major London theatre critics and sold-out performances.[16][17][18] Mirochnikov also served as production consultant.[19][20]

Mirochnikov was an associate producer and movement associate director in the 2018 West End production and modern adaptation of Tartuffe.[21][22]

As a voice-over artist, Mirochnikov gained a cult-following for providing the original voice of Artyom in the video game Metro 2033.[23] He also provided voices for Rome: Total War, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, to name a few.[24]

Some of Mirochnikov's recent film and television acting credits include World War Z (2013), Legends (2014), Spectre (2015), McMafia (2018), and The Feed (2019).

Personal Life[edit]

Mirochnikov lives in London. He plays the drums and speaks three languages: Russian, English, and Dutch.[25]
