Olga Rodionova, also known as Olga Richardson, is a Russian-born former professional Latin dancesport competitor and dance coach based in Houston, Texas. Competing with partner Paul Richardson from 2003 to 2007, she reached the professional Latin semi-final at the Blackpool Dance Festival and challenged for the British Professional Latin Championship. She later opened the Premier Dance USA studio in Houston and works as a coach and adjudicator.
Early life
Rodionova was born in Saint Petersburg and began dancing at the age of five, training under Guennadi Iakounine.[1]
Competitive career
Rodionova partnered Paul Richardson in professional Latin from 2003; the couple's recorded results run from an event in Brentwood, England, in October 2003 to The British Closed at Blackpool in 2007.[2] Representing the United States, they were described in 2005 as U.S. professional Latin American finalists.[3]
At the Blackpool Dance Festival's Professional Latin championship, the couple placed ninth in 2005, competing for the United States, and eighth in 2006, competing for the United Kingdom.[4] Having registered as a British couple in 2006, they challenged Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova for the British Professional Latin Championship in November 2006.[2] According to her studio biography, she was a World Professional Latin finalist for the United States, a finalist at the UK Open, the International Championships, the Dutch Open and the Asian Open, and a champion of the World Cup, Asian Pacific and USA Open professional Latin events.[1] She retired from competition in 2007.[1]
Coaching and adjudicating
Rodionova recorded instructional videos for DanceVision, including an International Latin syllabus series with Corky Ballas.[5] After a period in New York, she opened Premier Dance USA in Houston in 2013, where she coaches social and competitive dancers.[1] She is a member of the Pan American Teachers of Dance and an accredited Latin coach, and as an adjudicator has judged World Dance Council World Pro-Am Championships.[1][6]
