Personal Life
Jones was born in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear on June 17th, 2003. Growing up working class, he received free school meals[1] and would argue with Gateshead Council Leader, Cllr Martin Gannon over free meal vouchers for school children on school holidays.[2] Jones says growing up in Gateshead he "saw how people want to be supported to get on in life, rather than having a nanny state forcing them down a selected path."[3]
He attended Thorp Academy in Ryton then studied Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Oxford.[4]
Career
Originally a member of the Conservative Party, he cancelled his membership in March 2019 realising that his economic and social liberalism was not at home in the party. His policy interests lie in building an economically liberal vision of how to solve the climate emergency, localism, spending money frugally to ensure we save money later and tax reform.[3]
In September 2020, he was appointed the Youth Officer of the Environmental Wing of his party, the Green Liberal Democrat Archived 2022-09-27 at the Wayback Machine. This led him to become a board member of the Economic liberalist, Liberal Reform. He later became the first Social Mobility Representative to the Young Liberals Diversity Committee.[5][4]
In January 2021, he assumed office as the North East Chair of the Young Liberals, a constituent region of the English Young Liberals, which he would then go on to lead, following the resignation of William Tench in October 2021.[6]
Jones holds a key role in the Liberal Democrat's Operation Social Justice which launched with Ed Davey on 27th October 2021.
