Kyle Brittain (born March 22, 1996) professionally known as Oliver Urban, is a Canadian author, artist, blogger, and the founder of Diverse Tomes. Urban is also known for writing as Apollo Blake. Born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada, Urban began writing at the age of twelve, and self-published his first title at the age of eighteen. Urban's works include The Lilac Jones Adventures, a short story series about a Chinese-Canadian teen and her supernatural struggles, and Souls of Salt and Seawater, a dark fantasy anthology about sirens set in the fantasy world of Josmea, due out in December 2015.

Urban also founded Diverse Tomes, a non-profit dedicated to discussing and celebrating diversity in teen-oriented media, in September 2015. Urban cites activists such as Kat Blaque and Anita Sarkeesian as his inspirations for creating Diverse Tomes.

Career

Urban started writing at the age of twelve, and published his first title, Night of the Dragon, at the age of eighteen under the pseudonym Apollo Blake. It is the first in a series of four young adult short stories called the Lilac Jones Adventures, which Urban later made available for free on the fiction-sharing site Wattpad, along with a never-before-published fourth instalment of the series and bonus content that included an interview, wherein he announced that he was working on a spin-off series of longer works, called A Darkness So Divine. He stated that the new series would be more mature than its predecessor and would lead Lilac down a darker path than in previous works.

As of September 2015, Urban announced that the release of his upcoming novella Shadows, about a race of modern witches in Seattle, would be postponed indefinitely, as he planned to expand the story into a full-length novel instead.

Urban also announced in September that his dark fantasy anthology Souls of Salt and Seawater, would be released in December 2015.
