Olivier Marteel is an international snooker referee from Ghent, Belgium, who has been officiating on the main professional tour since 2006.[1]
Career[edit]
His first senior match was in the qualifying rounds for the 2006 Masters. [1]
In 2015 Marteel refereed the final of the World Championship[2] between Shaun Murphy and Stuart Bingham, the first Belgian to do so (and only the second continental European). He also refereed a semi-final in 2014.[3]
Personal life[edit]
When he is not officiating on the snooker circuit, Marteel works full-time as a radiology nurse. He has one child.[3] He says he is not interested in the superstar status of some snooker referees and is happy to devote 50% of his time doing a good job on the snooker circuit.[4]
