Career

2001-present: New Millenium

In April 2000, there were rumors that Mario Lemieux was attempting a drastic comeback. However, Lemieux confirmed that because of his diagnosis of atrial fibrillation, he would not be able to attempt one. However, Lemieux stated that his only son Austin wanted to see his father play, and that he felt like a special surprise was coming into the Penguins organization. Lemieux again shocked the hockey world by announcing at a press conference on December 8, 2000, that Taylor himself was set to return to Pittsburgh for the first time since April 1930. Upon announcing his comeback, Taylor confirmed he had also signed a "career-spanning deal" with Nike to wear their equipment on the ice and to endorse their products off the ice, lasting until his career ended, and that he had also undergone a special surgery that would keep him alive for a long time.
