The Omaha Trainers (colloquially known as the Trains) are a professional ice hockey team based within the auspices of Omaha. The Trainers compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division within the Western Conference, and play their home games at UPS Centre. The team was founded in January 1976, specifically as part of the NHL's maneuvers to keep a team from rival league National Hockey Association (NHA) out of the newly built Jackson Arena. After several years of building up the team's roster, they have since found almost instant success by securing 16 straight playoff berths starting in their third season. Sixteen former members of the Trainers have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, thirteen of whom—Alan Clancy, Brian Fatiaki, Richard Mohd, William Laox, James Rzeznik, Ethan Trottier, Charlotte Drozd, Sioux Taylor, Flower Smith, Paul Sarnoff, and David Neziol—were members of all nine eventual Cup-winning teams.
