Omar Afuni

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Omar Afuni is an independent singer-songwriter and musician.

Career

Early Beginnings (2010)

Omar first found success in 2010 as a YouTube artist doing cover versions of popular songs. His mash-ups and medleys were picked up by many popular music blogs such as Loft965[1] and LA's KROQ 106.7 FM,[2] and were praised by celebrities such as Stefano Gabbana of Dolce & Gabbana[3][self-published source?] and independent R&B artist Travis Garland.[4][self-published source?]

Resurrected: Debut LP Release (2011)

While working on his YouTube channel, Omar also worked on his debut LP, "Resurrected", which was released for free on his website for his fans on January 31, 2011. The album was downloaded by fans over 35,000 times.[5][self-published source?] The album was entirely written, composed, produced, mixed, and mastered by Omar himself.

Soundproof (2013)

Omar wrote and recorded most of his second LP, "Soundproof", in London as a postgraduate student at the University of Greenwich. As with his debut, this album was also released for free on his website on September 23, 2013. It was preceded by the lead single "Music Therapy" which was accompanied by Omar's first music video.

Opening for Akon (2015)

In August 2015, Omar was invited to perform as an opening act for international singer Akon at his first concert in Stockholm, Sweden.[6][self-published source?]

Rush (2016)

In 2015, Omar teamed up with music producer Sarj to work on his third LP, "Rush". The album features contributions from composer & guitarist Adel Al-Qattan and keyboardist Lester Rodrigues.[7][self-published source?] The album's lead single and title track was released on August 19, 2016 on iTunes and Google Play. It was accompanied by a music video that pokes fun at the stereotypical elements of Pop music videos.

The album was released on October 7, 2016 internationally. It was selected and featured on iTunes' notable Pop 'New Releases', and was one of the best-selling Pop releases in its week of release.[8][self-published source?] It was also highly-praised by international music blogs for its diverse array of genres and its late 1980s/early 1990s throwback theme. British music blog MyFizzyPop stated:

"If it was Omar's goal to bring back the core essence and architecture of enduring pop back to the masses, he has more than succeeded."

French music blog RV Pop Music stated that "Rush" is:

"A melting pot of different influences, but always led by Omar's warm and powerful beautiful voice."
