Omer Aftab (1970) is a Pakistani social entrepreneur and Campaign Strategist. He is known for his unique interventions for social justice along with strategic campaigns he has created to combat social issues including Pink Ribbon National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, White Ribbon Men’s Movement for Ending Violence Against Women, his initiative for the formation of the first Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Pakistan and National Initiative on Health and Behavior Issues of Youth.
Early life
Omer Aftab was born in 1970 to a Pakistani Muslim family in Lahore. He studied at Division Public School located in Model Town, from his early schooling to intermediate 1974-1987. It was here at Division Public School where he started engaging in an array of social activities as a child and teenager. He was a bright student during his educational span and his schooling proved to have contributed to his professional development. The school provided him the environment to discover his full potential, both in studies and in extra-curricular activities.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Following the Breast Cancer-drive death of a close friend, Omer Aftab took up the cause of raising awareness about Breast Cancer in Pakistani society and sensitizing the public and government to take this issue seriously and resort to the plans and policies to combat the disease. After 14 years of strenuous efforts, he is now able to highlight the issue in the mainstream. Omer Aftab is now building Pakistan's first dedicated Breast Cancer Hospital.
Gender Justice
Omer Aftab founded White Ribbon Pakistan, a men's movement to end violence against women, and started a fight against gender inequality, domestic violence and violations of women rights.
Honours & Distinctions
In recognition of his efforts for raising awareness about Breast Cancer and women rights in Pakistan, International Public Relations Association (IPRA) bestowed Omer Aftab with an IPRA Award in 2005.
