The Ontario fireworks explosion was an explosion in Ontario, California that occurred on March 16, 2021. The explosion, caused by the storage of illegal fireworks, started as a minor house fire and resulted in catastrophic damage within the explosion's radius.[1]

Around 12:00p.m. PST, the Ontario Fire Department responded to a minor house fire; loud pops were heard around the neighborhood. Residents were told to evacuate and get to a safer distance.[2] Minutes after the first explosion, another explosion occurred.[3]

On the next day, the bomb squad arrived and cleared all unexploded fireworks.[4] Two bodies were discovered on the scene. The cost of the disaster was well above $3 million.[5]
