Early life
Onyxx Monopoly born in Merced, California Archived 2024-03-05 at the Wayback Machine, on April 8, 1980. Due to abuse and neglect, she was moved to Utah to reside with her grandmother. This is where she would later discover her love for music. The second husband of her grandmother was a DJ for the Airforce. In her free time, being in a small town, she became fascinated with the music he played and the music videos that she would watch on MTV Archived 2016-11-08 at the Wayback Machine, and so she would take his albums and play them. It was between the ages of five and six that Onyxx began dreaming of becoming a DJ on the radio. During the next few years, as she was between the ages of eight and eleven, she became exposed to abusive activities in connection with her care providers being drug abusers during the 1980s[1] and so she would eventually be placed with her grandmother's ex-husband and his wife, not lasting more than a year. She ran away and became homeless, living in the streets of the San Fernando Valley where she became a human trafficking victim at the age of twelve. She was found and taken to the police station where she was then sent to a foundation called Children of the Night[2], she would eventually find change in the staff and a woman by the name of Bertha Parker, a Children of the Night rescuer, after she had left the facility Bertha found her and convinced her to return. She was then provided a social worker Tina Bennett whose shared interest of classical music provided comfort in the transition to foster care and assisted in the beginning process to recovery following with adoption.
Entertainment Career
1994-2000: Beginnings
In the summer of 1994, Onyxx Monopoly started her venture into entertainment, beginning as an initiative to help the kids she shared a foster home with. She contacted The Forum[3] belonging to former Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss and was able to get him on the phone. During that conversation, Jerry indulged her inquiry by allowing her to have access to The Forum for free under the condition that she raise $10,000 to pay the staff. She began selling dinners and teaming up with other personalities to raise the funds which began her relationships with artists and record labels in the entertainment industry.
Onyxx Monopoly gained sponsorship from Death Row Records to host her first Winter Wonderland event in 1996, and the event attracted over 350,000 people. She became one of the youngest Publicists for a record label when Terry Carter former shareholder in RENDEZVOUS RECORDS, INC made her his publicist, he then went on to do a deal with Ice Cube and they started Heavyweight Records for which she served in the same capacity from 1995 to 1999. During that same time frame she worked with the talent at Bad Boys Records.
Onyxx decided to scale back her entertainment industry involvement to focus on building a family after departing from the entertainment industry.
2008-present: Return to Entertainment
Onyxx Monopoly became Hooked On Onyxx, a non terrestrial radio, blog talk and live broadcast as well as an interview platform which successfully launched in April of 2014 on LA Talk Live with over nine hundred thousand live viewers on her first show, and averaged over six hundred thousand per show thereafter. Unfortunately due to illness, Onyxx was forced to take a break from the show. Hooked On Onyxx returned in the winter of 2016 with a new format while partnering with Live.me as a social media personality, she established a strong fanbase and family of supporters. In the fall of 2018, Onyxx Monopoly purchased and regulated her airtime on 100.9 FM The Heat and operated as a radio and livestream personality with her Live.Me following which ranked #1 in the US at that time with over 90 million users across the United States alone, connecting two worlds of entertainment, the Hooked on Onyxx brand grew.
Real Estate
In 2000, Onyxx Monopoly started her real estate ventures early and found some measures of success. Starting out she was knocking on doors and getting owners on-board with selling the problem property and she would receive a finders fee. In 2005 she made her first million in a single sale when she was able to sell a property for an owner who needed his property sold and agreed to give $1 million as a consultant fee if she could get the property to sell. Six years straight she made $300 thousand per month on average as a real estate investor. She has quickly become affectionately known as the “Finder” and has been recognized as an invaluable resource for making connections by many of her long standing clients.
Personal Life
Onyxx has been a resident in Palmdale, CA and Riverside, CA; also Clearfield, Utah and currently Salt Lake City, Utah.
Legacy
Onyxx Monopoly established a path that is completely her own and became a voice speaking up on behalf of those who have had the misfortune of being a victim of various abuses, and sex trafficking. Onyxx Monopoly is a serial-entrepreneur and the owner of a black owned radio station in the state of Utah.
