On May 2, 1992, the Yugoslav People's Army, under the command of Milutin Kukanjac, carried out the secret operation codenamed "Chameleon". The main task of the operation was to storm through the defenses of the city and quickly secure the Bosnian presidential building. The attack was given to the special units of JNA from Niš. The Yugoslav army failed to secure the building because they were stopped by the well prepared Bosnian territorial defense forces. More than 20 people were killed in the attack, all of them members of the JNA.[1][2][3]
Aftermath[edit]
During the attack, some civilians were injured and two trams and numerous cars were destroyed by artillery and rocket fire.[4]
