Opti Global is a Ukrainian group of companies that provides transportation, tourism, and security services. The group was founded in 2005. It currently operates in Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania.
History[edit]
The company was founded in 2005 by Petro Kovtun under the brand Optimal Taxi 579. In an interview, Petro said that he came up with the idea of starting a taxi company during the car trip with his father. This was when he first shared the future service concept.[1] Initially, the service operated only in Kyiv. The office was located in a private apartment where bookings for passenger and private transportation were processed.
By the end of the 2000s, the Optimal Taxi network became one of the largest in the capital and introduced its activities in other major cities of Ukraine. In 2009, the company opened branches in Lviv and Zaporizhzhia, in 2010 – in Odesa and Dnipro, from 2011 to 2013 – in Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Mykolaiv.
2014 was the year of major expansion: Opti transportation services were launched in 16 more cities (Zhytomyr, Kamianske, Lutsk, Kryvyi Rih, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Kherson, Bila Tserkva, Kropyvnytskyi, Cherkasy, Bukovel, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mariupol).
In 2019, the company conducted a large-scale rebranding. As a result, a group of companies – Opti Global – emerged under the joint brand Opti.[2][3] The company also presented its mobile application. The application enables users to order about 10 different transportation services, door-to-door and courier delivery, and purchase train, bus, and airline tickets. In 2020, amid the COVID-2019 pandemic, at the initiative of the owner Petro Kovtun, Opti taxis provided free of charge transportation services to doctors.
As of August 2021, Opti has branches in 36 cities of Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa, Berdiansk, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Mariupol, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk, Uzhhorod, Stryi, Irpin, Brovary, Kovel, Mykolaiv, Bukovel, Sumy, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske, Vinnytsia, Dubno, Drohobych, Bila Tserkva, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Truskavets, Ternopil, Kropyvnytskyi, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Zaporizhzhia and Zhytomyr. Opti has its own fleet in Kyiv, Dnipro and Lviv.
Rebranding and scaling. Entering the EU market[edit]
In the second half of 2010, the company entered the markets of the European Union. The taxi service under the Opti brand was launched in Poland and Lithuania. On November 5, 2019, the official name of the company was changed to Opti Global.
In 2020, Opti got engaged in a new line of business, and the company Opti Safe was founded. It was created by merging 3 companies: Opti group of companies, Max Bezpeka LLC and Kononchuk & Partners law firm. The organization's activities are licensed and certified.
Opti Safe provides physical protection of private and public property, security services for individuals, organizes rapid response, installs fire and burglar alarms, as well as video surveillance systems.
Business activity in the EU[edit]
In September 2015, Taxi 579 started operating in Poland, and in November 2017 - in Lithuania. Transportation services in the European Union are provided both on the company's own cars and rented vehicles. The dispatch service of Opti Poland works from Ukraine with local dispatchers who speak Polish. In 2021, another subsidiary, Opti Tir was launched in Poland. It specializes in freight transportation.
As of August 2021, Opti taxis can be booked in Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Tricity in Poland. In Lithuania, the service is available in Vilnius, Kaunas, Jonava and Druskininkai. In both countries, bookings are taken by phone or via an application.
Tourism activities[edit]
In 2017, Opti launched a travel agency Opti Travel. It specializes in organizing trips abroad and local tours.[4]
