Oqimta (Heb: אוקימתא) is an online journal dedicated to the field of classical rabbinic literature and other disciplines in proximity. Articles submitted to the editorial board undergo peer review, as is customary in scientific journals. Oqimta is a free-access journal and publishes papers in Hebrew and English.
Established in 2013 by its first chief editor, Prof. Shamma Yehudah Friedman, who served as a full professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS), and the department of Talmud at the Bar-Ilan University. Friedman is a member of the Academy of the Hebrew Language and a winner of the Israel prize (2014). Prof. Friedman had edited issues 1-4 (2013-2016). Since issue 5 and on, the chief editors are prof. Michal Bar-Asher (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev), and Prof. Moulie Vidas (Princeton University).
The editorial board has declared its commitment to addressing gender bias within the field, specifically encouraging female researchers to submit their articles for publication.[1]
The Journal is registered in the academic journals' list of the Council for Higher Education in Israel.[1] The journal is included in EbscoHost Research Database.
