Oron Shaul (Hebrew: שאול אורון) is a 21 year old Israeli soldier from Poriya.[1] He is in the Golani's 13th Battalion of the Israel Defense Forces who is currently missing in action and presumed to have been killed.[2]
Attack[edit]
On Sunday, 20 July 2014, at approximately 01:00 during Operation Protective Edge, a Hamas militant struck an Israeli Armored Personnel Carrier,[3] in Shuja'iyya, with seven Israeli Defense Force soldiers inside.[4]
Shortly after the attack Hamas announced that they had captured an Israeli soldier named Shaul Aron.[5] A masked member of Hamas went on TV to make this announcement and showed the soldiers IDF paperwork to validate the claim.[6] Israel very quickly denied the rumors, stating no Israel soldiers are been captured.[7]
Missing in Action status[edit]
During the morning of 22 July 2014 the IDF announced that one soldier's remains from the weekend's APC attack had not yet been recovered, that soldier was later identified as Oron Shaul.[8] Israel announced that they have been unable to identify the remains of Shaul, however they are presuming he was killed.[9]
