Ortho Pedal is an Alburtis, Pennsylvania - based company that manufactures the Ortho Pedal, a replacement for a bicycle pedal to assist individuals with arthritis or other knee-related conditions in riding a bicycle.

History[edit]

Founded by William Moseley, Ortho Pedal originated from Moseley's personal experiences, including knee-related injuries including a car-bike accident at age 17 that necessitated surgery and life-long knee related challenges. Despite facing these challenges, Moseley maintained his passion for cycling. Collaborating with an inventor and manufacturer, he conceptualized and created Ortho Pedal with the vision of assisting individuals in returning to the sport of biking.[1]

In the spring of 2016, Ortho-Pedal engaged with the Widener University Small Business Development Center. Seniors in Widener's MGT-451 Senior Project class worked with Ortho-Pedal for 15 weeks. The project was titled "Gearing Up for Growth: An Updated Business Plan” and was prepared for the Widener University School of Business Administration by the students.[2]

At the end of the semester, a final business plan was presented to Ortho-Pedal owner William Moseley,[3] Widener faculty, administrators and other students. Sales since have increased by 300% as of September 2016.[4]
