osborne Books
Osborne Books was founded in 1972 by Adam Osborne after he had difficulty finding anyone to publish and distribute his book An Introduction to Microprocessors. Upon publication, the book quickly became very popular in the emerging field of computing and sold 300,000 copies, transforming what had been "Osborne and Associates" into a very successful publisher.[1]
Osborne Books was acquired by publishing giant McGraw Hill in 1979.[2] Through this acquisition, McGraw Hill created the Osborne/McGraw Hill imprint, which specialized in manuals for computer programmers and software users. From its offices in Berkeley, California, Osborne/McGraw Hill published hundreds of handbooks for early adopters of personal computers and the rapidly expanding population of software users.
