Osher Ad
Osher Ad (in its official name Merav - Food All Ltd. ) is an Israeli supermarket chain, established in 2009 by Avraham Moshe Margalit, Aryeh Boim and Yehuda Laniado. As of April 2020, the chain has 19 branches throughout Israel.
History
"Osher Ad" was established in 2009 as a discount chain. The first branch of the chain was established in Migdal Haemek. The chain was established by Avraham Moshe Margalit, Aryeh Boim and Yehuda Laniado, who previously owned the Alef marketing chain, which was established as a marketing network aimed at an ultra-Orthodox audience and its branches were established in ultra-Orthodox population centers. The network was owned by Margalit and directed members of the Gur Hasidim and secular Laniado, and half of the net shares held by Supersol. In 2008, Shufersal exercised a purchase option and acquired the remaining control of the "Alef" chain from the partners, for NIS 140 million. After a cooling-off year, the partners established the "Osher Ad" chain.
According to the Dun & Bradstreet ranking published in 2016, Osher Ad is the fourth largest food chain in Israel, with a turnover of NIS 2.29 billion per year. It is preceded by the Shufersal, Rami Levy and Bitan Wines chains. According to the same ranking, the "Osher Ad" network leads in the sales index per employee. As of April 2020, the chain has 19 branches in Israel. Its branches sell products with special kosher status, but it does not only appeal to an ultra-Orthodox audience. The chain's branches are large in area (about 6,000 square meters on average per branch) and many products are sold in large packages.
