Otuo-Akyampong Boakye (OAB) is a Ghanaian researcher, teacher, environmentalist, and the founder of Eco-Warriors Movement, a non-profit organization that focuses on raising awareness of the plight of the environment, reaffirming humanity's inherent connection and dependence on nature, and issue a call to action to repair and conserve nature for posterity.[1][2] In 2012, he completed his undergraduate studies in Biological Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. After graduating from KNUST, he then enrolled in a graduate program from the same university where he graduated with a Master's in Environmental Science in 2016.[3]

Otuo-Akyampong is a social entrepreneur who runs a business based on the principles of people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership. He has experience in land reclamation and climate actions in indigenous communities.[4] In 2022, Otuo lead the Eco-Warriors Movement to launch an initiative to translate environmental information into sign language and local languages such as Twi, Ewe, and the Ga language.[5] He is an award-winning SDG 13 advocate in Ghana, the winner of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization's Youth Forestry Change Maker Award, and a finalist in the Global Landscape Forum's Landscape Stewards awards in 2020.[3]Otuo-Akyampong will work at Impact Hub, NY Metropolitan Area in New York City, NY, where he will assist in planning community-driven  initiatives to raise awareness of climate change and introduce local climate actions.[4]

Career[edit]

After completing his Master's program at KNUST, Otuo worked at the KNUST department of environmental science as a Research Assistant in 2016. After serving for a while, he was later employed as Biological teacher at Nkawkaw by the Ghana Education Service in 2016. In an interview Otuo mentioned that, his experience as a Biological teacher inspired him to start Eco-Warriors Movement in 2020, with the aim on restoring degraded landscapes and mitigate climate change through an integrated and inclusive approach.[6]

Under Otuo-Akyampong Boakye's leadership, Eco-Warriors Movement has carried out several environmental initiatives, including tree-planting campaigns, clean-up exercises, and recycling projects.[7] [1] The organization has also organized educational programs for schools and communities, raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging people to adopt eco-friendly practices.[8][9]
