Outlast is a horror film that was released in 2023 and produced by the independent Venom Media Team, based in Scotland. The founder and director of Venom Media, Richi Booth, is known for pushing the boundaries of creativity in the industry. The film was directed by Richi Booth and starred Aroura Lyon, Callan Patrick, Emma Booth, Liam Bennett, and Nathan Owens. The film was independently shot on the night of October 31, 2022, in Closeburn Castle, Scotland, which is one of the most haunted places in the United Kingdom.
The director, Richi Booth, and Venom Media spokesperson stated in interviews with The Daily Record, Glasgow Live, and The National Paper that the film was created with the goal of showcasing the team's creative ideas and bringing a new perspective to the horror genre. The ambitious crew worked for over 18 hours a day to push the limits of their creativity and bring the story to life.
Outlast tells the story of a group of friends who venture into Closeburn Castle, known for its haunted past and eerie atmosphere, in search of a ghost-hunting experience. However, as they delve deeper into the castle, they begin to realize that the ghosts they are hunting may not be the only ones in the castle. The film explores themes of fear, the unknown, and the consequences of curiosity.
In addition, Richi Booth also emphasized that the film industry in Scotland needs more support for independent filmmakers, He said that the film industry in Scotland doesn't have enough support for independent filmmakers like himself and that he hopes his success with Outlast will help bring more attention to the Scottish film industry. Furthermore, he announced that he plans to start working on Outlast 2 and that Venom Media plans for Outlast to receive an international release, making the film available worldwide.
