Outpost24
Outpost24 is a privately held cybersecurity company headquartered in Karlskrona, Sweden. The company was founded in 2001 by a group of ethical hackers and software engineers. Its platform encompasses external attack surface management (ASM), identity and access management (IAM) solutions, application security testing, vulnerability assessment, and on-demand penetration testing. [1]
History and Acquisitions
Since its founding in 2001, the company has transitioned from consulting services to cloud-based software offerings, launching its first managed scanning solution in 2007. By 2012, Outpost24 had introduced its Attack Surface Management (ASM) platform.[2]
In January 2018, Outpost24 made its first acquisition by acquiring SecludIT[3][4], a startup focused on cloud infrastructure security, marking the company’s entry into container and virtualized environment assessments. Later that year, they acquired Pwnie Express[5][6] in October 2019, expanding threat detection to Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi devices.
In July 2021, Outpost24 acquired Blueliv to integrate dark web and open-source intelligence into its products.[7][8] In November of the same year, it added Specops Software’s password management and MFA solutions to its portfolio.[9][10][11]
This series of acquisitions culminated in a majority stake investment by Vitruvian Partners in July 2022.[12][13][14][15] The most recent acquisition came in June 2023 with the purchase of Sweepatic, an external attack surface management (EASM) solution.[16][17][18][19]
Technology & Research
Outpost24’s early contributions to the wider cybersecurity industry included the introduction of Sockstress, a fundamental flaw in TCP/IP networking discovered as a proof-of-concept in 2008, and Unicornscan, a powerful open-source TCP scanner.
