Ovais Ahmed
Ovais Ahmed (born February 12, 1985) is a decorated two-time Afghanistan war veteran who served as a LAV III crew commander with the Royal Canadian Dragoons in the Canadian Army. He serves his community, is an inspirational speaker to local high schools, universities, and a person who turned his own adversity into an opportunity to help others.[1]
Background
Ahmed grew up and spent most of his life in Ottawa, Ontario. He is the eldest son of Abrar Ahmed, who retired from the Canadian Armed Forces, and the grandson of Pakistani immigrants to Canada after World War II, in 1955. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University in 2016, following a long 12-year career in the Canadian military. He is currently a SCMP candidate, the founder of Ryerson University Veterans Alumni (RUVA), a board member of Ryerson University’s military transitioning program, and a member of Treble Victor.
Military Career
His most recent tenure involved being a Regimental Operations manager at a Toronto military unit, working extensively in operations management. His previous professional experience included eight years at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa where he was deployed twice to Afghanistan as part of the reconnaissance squadron and gained global experience in Cyprus, Dubai, and the United States.
