Ozgene Pty Ltd., or known as "Ozgene", is an Australian company that generates customized genetically modified mice for drug validation and medical research trials..[1]. Ozgene was founded in 1999 by Dr Frank Koentgen and Dr Gabi Suess, they were the first to produce a C57BL/6 knockout mouse in 1993[2].

Ozgene generates mice for research purposes such as knockout mice, knock-in mice, humanized mice, and transgenic mice[3]. Their typical customer base are individual academic institutions, research institutions, biotechnology companies, or pharmaceutical companies[4].

History

After Ozgene’s founding in 1999, Ozgene expanded their client base by beginning to export their modified mice from Perth, Australia to other Countries in 2000. Ozgene’s customer base range globally from 31 countries total, mostly within Australia, North America, South America, and Europe[5].

In 2003, Ozgene accepted a contract with the National Institute of Health in the United States, where Ozgene became a long-term supplier of their mice services[6]. Ozgene's mice are referenced in the mentions of the National Institute of Health's research publishings that use Ozgene's modified mice[7]. In 2015, Ozgene Pty Ltd. patented their goGermline technology, where it won the inaugural ISTT 3Rs prize[8]
