PAPEA (or Patrulla Acrobática de Paracaidismo del Ejército del Aire) is the Spanish national parachute display team.

History

The team was formed in 1978.[1]

Structure

The display team is headquartered at Alcantarilla Air Base, in south-east Spain, home of the Escuela Militar de Paracaidismo, which trains parachutists. There are fifteen men and two women.

The team is transported by a EADS CASA C-295 and CASA C-212 Aviocar twin-engined aircraft.

Also at the same air base is the Escuadrón de Zapadores Paracaidistas, the Spanish Air Force's unit of Spanish special operations, a parachute unit.
