PAREF Southridge School (abbreviation: SR) is an all-boys private school located in a three-hectare property in Hillsborough Muntinlupa City, Philippines.[1]The school was founded in 1979 by the Parents for Education Foundation (PAREF). The school uses the Philippine K-12 system and teaches from Grades 1 to 12 with Grade school, Junior High School, Senior High School, and Afternoon School. The Afternoon School is Southridge's full high school scholarship program for indigent but well-deserving students in Metro Manila.[2] The educational philosophy of Southridge is closely affiliated with Opus Dei and the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva. [3]

Vision[edit]

Vision According to their website: "We envision graduates who are Men of Integrity, well-formed and principled individuals, who contribute to the common good of society."[4]

School Seal[edit]

All PAREF Schools feature an escutcheon with a Vinta on it. The Southridge Logo features a Vinta boat on the top left over a blue background. This represents the sky and the sea. While on the bottom right is a Helm with a green background. This represents growth and renewal.[5]

School Pride[edit]

Vinta and Helm

The Vinta and Helm on the schools seal also represent the School's two Houses or rivals: Vinta and Helm. When students enter Southridge they are either placed in Vinta or Helm. If they have any relatives they would be placed in that house. Throughout the year there are Vinta and Helm games where students go against each other in sports like football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc. This is all kept track throughout the year and students follow who is winning.[6] The biggest battle occurs in Southridge's yearly school fair called Fathers' Day. [7]

Fathers' Day

Once a year the schools Vinta and Helm rivalry face in a series of sports and house games called Fathers' day. Fathers' day is the annual school fair organized by members of the High School student council and graduating batch. This is considered to be their legacy project.[8]

Back in the early 2000s Fathers day themes would use the theme of different countries like 2008's Fathers' day trip to Eygpt, and 2009's Land of the Rising Son.[9] However, in 2011 the student council introduced the concept of Southridge Admirals and the theme has shifted from 2011's Day of the D'admiral, 2012's operation D'day, 2013's I am your father, 2014's Makua Ohana, 2015's Back to the Father, 2016's Dad's of the Round Table, 2017's Earth mightiest Dads, 2018's Dads dads revolution, 2019's Dads Camera Action, 2020's Dad's Entertainment and 2021's Astrodad. [10] Each year the theme is a play on words with the word "Dad" or "Father". [11] [12]

Many identity Fathers' day as the school's biggest event like Paolo Rabat who said that "attending Fathers' Day could be the best way to start the year right, kicking it off with a bang. It will be like new year's eve again."[13] According to The Ridge, the school's news team "Fathers' Day is a yearly event that fosters our bond of friendship without family. Every year families gather together to celebrate what life is all about: being with the ones you love" [14]
