PDX Momentum Project
The PDX Momentum Project is a non-profit organization founded by a high school student in Portland, Oregon named Colin Kruse in 2025.[1] The non-profit helps cover the cost of sports fees and equipment for elementary- to high school-aged athletes. [2] The PDX Momentum Project initially focused on helping youth athletes in the cluster of elementary and middle schools that feed into the Cleveland High School system in Portland, Oregon, but in 2026, the non-profit expanded to all youth athletes in Southeast Portland, Oregon. [3]
Anyone can apply on behalf of a youth athlete or a youth team - the athlete themselves, parents, teachers, coaches, etc.[4] The application is short and available on the non-profit's website. [5]Awards can be used to pay for any sports-related cost, such as equipment, team fees, uniforms, shoes, sports camp, training, etc. [6] After an application is received, the youth advisory committee, comprised of five student-athletes in Southeast Portland, Oregon reviews it first. [7] The youth committee then makes a recommendation to the non-profit's board of directors, comprised of four adults, for a final decision. [8]
Between fall 2025 and summer 2026, the PDX Momentum Project awarded over $1000 in scholarships to local athletes.[9] The non-profit has 501(c)(3) status. [10]
The PDX Momentum Project has received donations from two places: (1) Colin Kruse, who donates a portion of his sales from his clothing resale business; and (2) community members.[11]
