PIEGA SA (PIEGA Switzerland) is a Swiss manufacturer of High-End loudspeakers and consumer electronics accessories. Headquarters are located in Horgen, Zürich.
History[edit]
In 1986 Leo Greiner, Kurt Scheuch and Christian Schmid founded the company, headquartered in Horgen on Lake Zurich. The name PIEGA is derived from the Italian word 'la piega', "the fold”, which refers to the ribbon tweeter technology used from the very beginning and at that time the practised folding of the ultra-thin aluminium foil, which has been the central element of development within their loudspeakers. [1][2]
In 1991 PIEGA SA moved to Horgen into today’s main factory on Lake Zurich.
In 2009, the coaxial loudspeaker ribbon system was combined into a dipole system with the MasterOne. In 2013 this was followed by the Master Line Source, with which the concept model of the so-called Line Source/Line Array) came into being.[3]This loudspeaker model enables all frequencies to be radiated as a coherent cylinder sound wave – a principle for which the ribbon technology was ideally suited.[4]
The ribbon-tweeter considerably outperforms conventional dome tweeters. The ribbon is driven by a highly compressed neodymium magnet, as well as bar magnets integrated in the front plate which act like magnetic lenses. These focus the magnetic field lines, thus enabling the tweeter to achieve a sound pressure level of more than 100 dB.[5]
From 2019 PIEGA has also been producing wireless loudspeakers.[6]
